Chakuna Machi Asa : Sacred Land
An homage to the Earth, combining electronics with sweet ancient chants, nature and people coming together as families to take action celebrating life and seeking the healing of our worn planet, an expression of power in a constellation of mystical dreams, a dream-journey.
This music video is a beautiful dance of images that show us all enjoying the Earth, but as you keep watching you will also start to see how our complicity with how things have always been done is impacting the environment. We must be honest about how much we all really love the planet and if we wish to continue to enjoy her beauty we must change our actions. For some of us, in our darkest moments of life, it becomes the only thing we have left to love about being alive.
This song is a continuation of healing messages from our ancestors but the sound is new and unique, with calming chants, peaceful ocean sounds and relaxing synth sounds in the background. It is a balanced relaxing mix of overtone chanting, angelic sounds, and earth based shamanic chants.
Throughout her life, Chakuna Machi Asa (aka Chakuna), has skillfully used sound vibration to activate the awakened natural state of universal being and to inspire personal transformation. Her spirit name was activated in an ancient indigenous Peruvian Shamanic ceremony. The name comes from the Quechua word Machakuna which means Ancestor. The elements of this music all work together because they're an extension of nature's advancement, bringing good thoughts, a healthy mindset and creating an increased feeling of overall well being, which promotes the flow of good energy to protect and guide the people in our lives, and all around. Learn to let go of fears that hold you back in life. Chakuna realized that in order to really leave the clouds of the past behind we must create and shift our focus onto something new.
"I really feel like I try to show up everyday and everywhere from a place of love," reflects Chakuna. "I approach every situation with my love for life and gratitude for the abundance of the earth."
What I hear is glowing keyboards blended with the sound of water and the sound of ethereal native singing. What you will see are images of the elements of nature - water, forest, green fields, life. Depicted are child activists, a mother with her child in the forest, two children picking flowers in the forest, a mixture of life affirming images with warnings of dire consequences if the celebration of nature is lost to the relentless advancement of industrialization. "I just want to inspire people and give them hope for better days. Coming from some pretty dark days myself, I have an immense amount of empathy for humanity. Life on this planet is tough to navigate especially without a strong connection to the earth."
Chanuka is specifically trying to bridge a gap between modern culture and our ancient ancestors in herself and then share this with others. She holds certifications in Massage Therapy, Reiki III, Therapeutic Kinesiology, Crystal Healing Therapy, and Reiki Drumming. She graduated with a BA in Psychology from Michigan State University with specialized studies in abnormal psychology, philosophy of love and justice, shamanism, and world religions. Her post graduate studies have included Peruvian Shamanic Healing, Herbology, Guided Meditation and Natural Health.
The study of crystals is an amazing thing. Chakuna learned how to lay crystals on the body to tune the body's electromagnetic energy field to the frequency vibration of the different crystals to help with energy healing, relaxation and meditation. She has been working for years on perfecting her art and music, figuring out the best ways of sharing healing energies with all who will benefit from it.
Chakuna offers music, chant, video teachings, and high vibe energy healing tools such as crystals, handmade wands and jewelry to encourage individuals to explore their spiritual energy.
With "Sacred Land," Chakuna delivers an important message about living on the Earth, we need to think more about what our legacy will be, our gift to the future. There are ugly warning signs, such as the mountains of landfill waste, also the orca on the beach really emphasizes the urgency. There are opportunities to share the beauty of our planet with our children and those who follow, doing things like respectfully enjoying the wilderness, and celebrating the resources we have.
Chakuna goes deeper. "It seems like each song has a story and a lesson hidden within its soul. I tend to learn something new from my songs just as much as the listener might. My music that I offer is birthed slowly and takes on a life of its own. After I first finished this particular song, I had named it “Ghost Clouds”. I feel like I was called to this name first because the song feels like a clearing of old energy that our ancestors have left us to deal with. As I was working on the music video, the soul of the song became very clear. Through the calming chants and video images it is actually showing everything in my soul that I love about the earth. It reflects my feelings about why I am vegan, why I spend so much of my energy donating to causes that I believe in, and how much that I truly love all the relationships that I have in my life. After I made the music video, I knew that I needed to change the name of the song to Sacred Land. I realized that in order to really leave the clouds of the past behind we must create and shift our focus onto something new. The music video is a beautiful dance of images that show us all enjoying the earth but as you keep watching you will also start to see how our complicity with how things have always been done is impacting the environment. We must be honest about how much we all really love the planet and if we wish to continue to enjoy her beauty we must change our actions. For some us, in our darkest moments of life, it becomes the only thing we have left to love about being alive. In times of sadness or contemplation, have you ever sat alone outside, took a deep breath of air and bathed in the beauty of a soft summer breeze? Or, have you ever taken a refreshing bath in the earths water after a good cry? Let’s really try to be honest with ourselves, all the things that make us feel comfortable are from the earth and without this connection and the essence of her soothing nature we are only left with suffering, sickness and disease. Respecting this truth will be our future."
I asked her about the land around where she is, "I am lucky that Michigan is so beautiful. We have so many local and state parks with lakes and big beautiful old trees. And, of course the Great Lakes are a stunning feature and adds to the overall uniqueness of the area. I spent my childhood at the metro parks with my grandparents watching for deer, feeding the birds and riding my bike. My love for the earth and being in nature makes up most of who I am. Actually, one of my first songs I wrote and sang is called Reborn Again which reflects my innate feeling that I keep reincarnating on the earth just to feel her and breathe her in. I return again and again because I am in love with the Earth’s beauty. If there is anything in my power that I can do to protect her, I will do it. Since I was a child, I have always had this feeling that my souls energy is here to support the earths evolution. Thankfully, there are so many new artists, authors and inspirational speakers that are helping everyday to transform some pretty old stagnant energies.
Do your worlds of music, healing, and crystals always coincide? Are they all just different mediums for you?
"Each crystal that I am drawn to and each necklace or song that I create is birthed from the same soul dance. I just want to inspire people and give them hope for better days. Coming from some pretty dark days myself, I have an immense amount of empathy for humanity. Life on this planet is tough to navigate especially without a strong connection to the earth."
